Hello everyone!
First I have to apologise because I didnt write for such a long time!Hanno and Barabara knew from the beginning that I am a lazy writer so they created this site for me cause I wouldnt do it on my own!
But now I'd like to write about my last few days on the south island of New Zealand!After finishing studying in wellington we headed towards south island!We started our journey with a 5 days trip through the Abel Tasman national park!The landscape was incredible to observe,there are lots of nice forests,beaches and other sceneries to explore!But after 5 days hiking ,no warm water, no power and no cellphones;-) I had enough.After Abel Tasman we stayed in a few small towns like Picton, Nelson, Motueka and Kaikura!There we visited the local attractions like the ninth oldest ship in the world(Edwin Fox-Picton) or the centre of New Zealand(Nelson) and of course lots of other stuff!In Kaikura we did some whale watching and dolphin swimming which wasnt that good because the weather was really bad!
We drove further south to Christchurch and spent couple of days there and enjoyed the flair and the nightlife of this nice city:-)
After the plane regions of christchurch we went to the higher regions of the south.Our next step was Mt.Cook village(mt.cook is nz's highest mountain) where we also spent a few days but we couldnt do much because the weather was bad again!!
It seems like the rainy weather is following us everywhere we go therefore we decided to stay in a ''bigger'' city where we can do more indoor activities!
W got to Dunedin later in the afternoon, which welcomed me as a city with a thriving student community and as a port town- the scottish city of NZ. Again, I checked into a homely YHA hostel, just like my previous stops, set slightly back from the city centre.
Spent three nights here, skulking around the city and appreciating its cafe culture, with bars and cafes spilling out seating onto the streets, packed-out with students., giving it a very laid-back feel.the 2nd day in I spent the day driving to and around the Otago penninsula, which was so pretty,sighting nice inlets, farms, villages and unspoilt beaches. I was hoping to see some penguins, but these guys are way too shy!! If anyone wants to see them here, go in the evening.
Had an awesome time meeting up with my friend Oli, who I met in the Abel Tasman national park and didn't leave the bar/club until 3.30- so much fun :) .
The next day in Dunedin involved driving up the world's steepest hill, and then up to Mt Cargill for a nice view of the city.As the weather changed again I just visited two of the otago museums
for the rest of the day and returned home as we had to depart early in the morning to drive to Queenstown over Invercargill and see some nice sceneries on the way.
Got into Queenstown around early evening, checking into to the hostel and then had a walk through the city centre where i finally found a kebab shop which is owned by turkish people(first ones since I'm here)!!
Spent 3 nights in Queenstown and did a 134m bungy jump ,plunging into the canyon from a gondola suspended above the canyon i.e. no tower, just a pod in the sky. Amazing rush felt when I dived off the platform and free-fell towards the river!It was so amazing that i did another bungy the following day but this time about 400 m above Queenstown!Got a DVD and pics, so you'll have to see!
So thats it so far!I try to write sooner next time:-)
